TQP's Approach: The Quality Partnership uses a well-define four-stage approach to SPD called 'DICO' - Diagnosis, Investigation, Control and Optimisation. |
Diagnosis This stage includes techniques such as problem definition and setting priorities. Techniques include control charting, Pareto analysis, cause and effects analysis, pattern analysis, flowcharting and sequencing. Investigation Investigation defines the process specification and determines the effects of changes. At this stage experimental design, Taguchi methods, Plackett Burman designs and Monto Carlo methods are used. |
Control The Control stage maintains process variables and production techniques. SPC, CuSum Charts and Pre Control charts are used here. Optimisation This stage involves specialised process investigations. Evolutionary Operation, Simplex, Monte Carlo and Steepest Ascent are some of the methods used. |
