Stage 1

Identifying funding assistance where appropriate

Forming a steering group to manage the programme.

The objective of this stage is to gain top level commitment to successful implementation.

Stage 2

Identifying the appropriate standard.

Auditing the existing system against the standard.

The objective of the second stage is to identify the gap between existing practices and the requirements of the standard.

Stage 3

Planning the implementation

Agreeing and compiling the quality manual

Agreeing and compiling procedures

Training procedure writers

Identifying the organisation's resource requirements

Formalising the organisation's quality policy

Selection of the appropriate assessment body

Training internal auditors.

The objective of this phase is to build a climate of ownership of the quality system.

Stage 4

Post installation audit and review to identify weaknesses, procedural difficulties and akills and training needs to ensure that everyone can and does work to the system
